Dr. Ioana Hall

Doctorate - Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP, BC

About me

I was born and raised in Romania, but have called the Seattle area home for the past 20+ years. I’ve worked a variety of different roles within the healthcare space including providing direct inpatient care at a local psychiatric hospital, where I ultimately completed my preceptorship.

Many of my patients have found success from holistic medicine used in combination with individualized pharmaceutical treatments and alternative psychotherapy services. My goal is to effectively target symptoms associated with all psychiatric disorders, especially Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), which is frequently treatment resistant.

My passion for psychiatric care stems from witnessing dear friends and family members struggle with different types of mental health disorders. Witnessing their challenges first-hand have helped me understand the need for new treatment options that combine cognitive and behavioral therapies. I’m determined to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and committed to advocating for my patients regardless of their background.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a “listen first” psychiatrist and pride myself on getting to know each client and their specific needs. My approach is rooted in empathy, evidence-based practices, and a deep commitment to understanding each patient’s unique story. My goal is to help my clients achieve sustained relief from their symptoms and enable them to lead a fulfilling and productive life.

Additionally, my work experience is quite diverse and includes providing patient care at hospitals like Fairfax Behavioral Health, offering one-on-one psychiatry care as a practitioner at clinics like DiscoveryMD, as well as teaching the next generation of doctoral students as an Associate Professor at Seattle University. As a result of these diverse environments and experiences, I’m able to offer care that draws upon a unique perspective and deliver care that few providers can.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical appointment involves a comprehensive diagnostic process aimed at understanding the patient’s mental health concerns. I typically conduct an initial assessment to gather information about the patient’s medical history, symptoms, and overall well-being. This may include discussions about lifestyle, stressors, and any relevant family history.

During the appointment, we often explore different aspects of the patient’s mental health, including thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I may use standardized assessments or diagnostic tools to aid in the diagnostic process. I’m trained to diagnose and treat various mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and more.

While I primarily focus on medication management, I occasionally integrate talk therapy or counseling into my appointment. This allows patients to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a supportive and therapeutic environment. However, it’s essential to note that not all appointments will engage in talk therapy, and the specific approach may vary from one appointment to another.

Patients can expect a collaborative and open dialogue during their appointments, where they can actively participate in the decision-making process regarding their treatment plan. We may discuss medication options, potential side effects, and address any questions or concerns the patient may have.

It’s crucial for patients to communicate openly with me, and provide detailed information to facilitate an accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment approach. Additionally, patients should inquire about the specific practices, including whether talk therapy is part of the treatment plan.

I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment where healing and growth can flourish. My goal is to empower my patients to achieve mental well-being and lead fulfilling lives. If this sounds like something you’re seeking then I’d love to work with you.
